If the person finds it difficult to use strategies that may help them to prevent relapse, depending on your caregiving situation you could:
- Encourage them to keep trying.
- Temporarily take a more active role in assisting the person (e.g. help them to do an activity when they are becoming depressed by doing it together).
- Support them behind the scenes (e.g. maintain regular household routines to reinforce the person’s routine).
- Discuss your ideas tactfully with them if you have suggestions about what might make it easier to use illness management strategies.
