Some caregivers find positive things about caregiving, the person and themselves that make it a bit easier to cope with the person’s extreme bipolar moods. Examples of positive things include:

The positive side of caregiving

Going through difficulties together can sometimes bring people closer together. Some caregivers say they have learnt to be more tolerant, empathic and gained confidence in their ability to cope.

Positive qualities

Examples of qualities you may notice about the person include creativity, their abilities or talents, their style, courage in battling the illness, and their kindness. Noticing these qualities may make you feel closer to the person.

The care you provide

Caregivers often do not receive appropriate recognition for what they do. Acknowledge what you do and the effort you make!
