If the person has difficulty carrying out their illness management strategies

If the person finds it difficult to use strategies that may help them to prevent relapse, depending on your caregiving situation you could:

  • Encourage them to keep trying.
  • Temporarily take a more active role in assisting the person (e.g. help them to do an activity when they are becoming depressed by doing it together).
  • Support them behind the scenes (e.g. maintain regular household routines to reinforce the person’s routine).
  • Discuss your ideas tactfully with them if you have suggestions about what might make it easier to use illness management strategies.
